The video 'Timeless Truth' is a video of a series we made with Mind Connected, a dance crew I'm part of. It was a while ago when I last stood before the camera. I followed a dance education so there was nothing special about it. But somewhere I noticed that my 'performance mask' went on. As if you turned on a switch.
The camera went on this day and I started dancing. A few seconds later I quited. My focus wasn't right. I realised I wanted to do it well for the people that were going to see this video, but did I want to do it well for my Maker?
I prayed with my wife and I started listening to the music one more time. I couldn't just 'go with the flow'. I wanted to represent Jesus and have my focus on Him.
I prayed if He wanted to lead me in the movements. And the funny thing is, we recorded the piece again and it really felt different. After the first take it was done. I tried to dance the piece a couple of times, but it didn't work out anymore. The first time I did it, there was something that wasn't present the times I tried after that.
It wasn't the perfect shot but I didn't care, I was lead by Him.
In the same way it's important that in everything we do, we need to seek Him.
We want to please so many people, but the only one who is really important is Jesus. Everything we do with Him has eternal value, everything we do without Him has only a temporary value.
This is a valuable lesson, one that I need to be reminded of daily: Even our christian work can be dishonoring to God if we do this on our own terms.
