We all live for something. We all have a story that structures our view of reality so we can make sense of everything that’s happening around us. It determines what you eat, how you dress, who your friends are and every other single detail of your life even if you aren't aware of it. Stories are more fundamental to our life than our basic need of food, clothing and shelter. After all, if there is no story to live for, why should we even care for anything at all? “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” (Isa 22:13)
It is now as it was back then when the gospel of Christ was preached, that there are a plethora of stories that float around. Everyone wants their story to count. But if literally every story has the same value, then ultimately no story has any real value at all which plunges us into a subjective limbo of unimportant importantness where the sick are healthy and the blind can see according to their own standards. The story of Christ is the culmination of the entire Old Testament narrative. It's the culmination of our entire human existence. It's the story of God and man.
